Heroic Act
In Petersburg, Virginia, 12-year-old Romir Parker is being hailed as a hometown hero after saving his family from a fast-moving house fire.

Four lives were spared because Romir’s instincts told him, “there was no time to waste.”

The Fire
The emergency unfolded in early June. Romir, upstairs in his bedroom, heard a strange noise and discovered thick black smoke downstairs.

He braved the flames to rescue his grandmother, guiding her to safety just minutes before the fire department arrived.

“Even if our crew got there within four minutes, Romir saved his family’s lives.”

Honors and Future
The city honored Romir with a proclamation for his “bravery and presence of mind, well beyond his years,” and the fire department named him an honorary firefighter.

Hoover also told him that when he turns 18, “there’s a place for him in the fire brigade if he ever wants it.”
