Jesse Colin Young, the guitarist and frontman of The Youngbloods, died at 83 in his South Carolina home. A representative said, “It is with deep sadness that we announce music legend Jesse Colin Young… died yesterday afternoon.”

Young was known for blending folk, blues, jazz, country, and rock. As the lead singer of The Youngbloods, he “immortalized the ideals of the Woodstock generation with ‘Get Together,’” a song promoting peace during the 1960s.

Born Perry Miller in Queens, New York, in 1941, Young grew up in Pennsylvania and briefly attended Ohio State University before pursuing music.
