Tragic update on 5-year-old girl sucked into
A Tragic Accident
On Sunday evening, 5-year-old Zaria Miller was playing outside near Bahia Vista Street when rushing water pulled her into a storm drain.
Deputies said the current carried her about 100 yards before firefighters rescued her.
“It’s a low-frequency, high-risk event,” said Assistant Fire Chief Tim Dorsey, adding, “There’s a tremendous amount of risk and danger.”

Rescue Efforts and Investigation
Firefighters quickly mapped the area, performed resuscitation, and rushed her to Sarasota Memorial Hospital.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the case “remains under investigation.”

Community Support
Neighbors recalled the shock: “All of the sudden I hear these noises, people talking and shouting… one of the neighbors’ little girls was playing in the water and got swept down.”
A GoFundMe was created to help the family.
Heartbreaking Update
After days in critical condition, the family shared:
“It is with a broken heart I have to share that Zaria has received the ultimate healing, and is in the arms of Jesus.”
