Trump Admin Sending Hundreds of Marines
Marines Deployed to Support ICE with Logistical Tasks
The U.S. military is sending 200 Marines to Florida to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with non-law enforcement tasks. “Service members participating in this mission will perform strictly non-law enforcement duties within ICE facilities,” said U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM).
The Marines will help with administrative and logistical work only and are barred from interacting with detainees.
This move is part of a larger Pentagon-approved plan from June, which allows up to 700 Defense Department personnel to assist ICE in Texas, Louisiana, and Florida. “They will not directly participate in law enforcement activities,” said Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell.
Earlier deployments in Los Angeles drew criticism from officials like Governor Gavin Newsom, who feared it would “escalate tensions.”
