Vance, Johnson Reveal Outrageous Dem Demands
Talks Collapse
Republicans and Democrats failed Monday in a last attempt to prevent a government shutdown.
Vice President J.D. Vance and House Majority Leader Mike Johnson accused Democrats of “taking hostages” during negotiations,
while Democrats warned that Republicans would bear the blame if the shutdown occurred.
Republican Criticism
Vance blamed “unreasonable Democratic demands” and said,
“Don’t threaten the American people with a gun and say,
‘We’re going to shut down your government unless you do exactly what Senate and House Democrats want.’”
He criticized the $1.5 trillion spending proposal,
claiming it allocated “hundreds of billions of dollars to health care for illegal immigrants.”
Democratic Spending Dispute
Johnson criticized the Democrats’ counterproposal as “wasteful,” citing funding for media,
illegal immigrant benefits, and $500 million in additional programs.
He noted Republicans had faced “13 shutdown threats during the Biden administration” and sought to maintain consistent governance.
Political Tensions
Both sides portrayed the other as responsible,
highlighting the deep partisan divide as the shutdown threat looms.
