Virginia 10-year-old takes her own life after
Tragic Loss of Autumn Bushman
Just a month ago, 10-year-old Autumn Bushman was described by her parents as “fearless, loving, and full of energy.”
On March 21, she died by suicide at her Roanoke, Virginia home, after enduring relentless bullying.
Bullying at School
Autumn’s parents said her troubles began when she stood up for classmates being bullied.
“She was one if somebody was getting bullied or picked on, she would stand up for them.
And unfortunately that may have made her a target for more bullying,” her mother, Summer, told WDBJ.
The stress grew despite reports to school administrators.
A Family’s Heartbreak
“She came to me crying… ‘Mom, I’m just, I’m really stressed out.
I’m being bullied. Can I please stay home from school tomorrow?’” Summer recalled.
Her father Mark added, “We’re entrusting the schools with our kids…
Are they really talking it out with the girls and taking action?”
A Call to Action
The Bushmans hope Autumn’s story inspires change.
Mark wrote, “Putting an end to bullying is not something achieved by individuals operating alone…
Let’s give these kids a life worth living.”
