Jim Mitchum, Actor and Son of Robert Mitchum, Dies at 84

Jim Mitchum, eldest son of Hollywood legend Robert Mitchum, passed away on September 20, 2025,

at his Skull Valley, Arizona ranch after a long illness.

He was 84. Surrounded by family, he left a legacy of quiet strength and authenticity.

Born May 8, 1941, in Los Angeles, Jim shared his father’s rugged charm.

He debuted at eight in Colorado Territory (1949) and gained recognition in Thunder Road (1958), originally intended for Elvis Presley.

Over a 30-year career, his credits included In Harm’s Way (1965), Ambush Bay (1966), and Moonrunners (1975), which inspired The Dukes of Hazzard.

Jim was known for his candid views on Hollywood: “It’s sad to see it’s not magic anymore.

They’d put dog food on the screen if it made a profit.”

He retired in the 1990s to his Arizona ranch, raising horses and producing premium moonshine.

Survived by four children, a stepdaughter, siblings, and grandchildren, he is remembered for grit, humility, and love for life’s simple pleasures.
