With heavy hearts, we announce the passing
The theatre community is mourning Adrian Vale,
the acclaimed performer known for The Mask of Midnight and Shadows Return,
who has died at 46 after battling advanced bowel cancer.
The news was shared by his close friend Marcus Whitlam, who wrote,
“Adrian wasn’t just a genius on stage… Knowing him was a gift.”
Marcus recalled their travels, late-night conversations, and Adrian’s warmth,
painting a portrait of a beloved friend whose life was shaped by art and generosity.
Adrian’s career spanned major productions across London and Australia,
earning awards and international praise for his powerful performances.
His passing feels especially tragic because he had spent years caring for his wife, actress Lila Hartwell, after a medical crisis left her needing long-term support.
Friends say his devotion to her never wavered. In his final months,
loved ones surrounded him with music, messages, and gratitude for the legacy he leaves behind.
