Woman, 27, starved to death in hotel
Woman Dies in Bali After Following Extreme Fruitarian Diet
A 27-year-old Polish woman, Karolina Krzyzak, died in Bali after adopting an extreme “fruitarian” diet that left her severely malnourished.
When she arrived at the Sumberkima Hill resort in December 2024, staff described her as “emaciated,”
with sunken eyes and visible bones. They offered medical help, but she refused.
As her health worsened, she became too weak to move.

Days later, she was found unresponsive in her villa.
Karolina, a former Leeds University student who had battled anorexia, reportedly weighed just 49 pounds.
Her diet consisted almost entirely of fruit.
Experts warned of the dangers: “You’re not getting sufficient protein or fats or omega-3s,”
said dietitian Melainie Rogers. Kate Patton added the diet poses a “big risk of malnourishment.”
Her death has sparked renewed warnings from health professionals about the life-threatening risks of extreme diets.
