River Outing Turns Tragic

What began as a family outing ended in tragedy on October 7, 2025,

when brothers Banx McAmis, 4, and Bowyn Miller, 7,

went missing near the Brazos River at Hamm Creek Park in Johnson County,

Texas. The boys vanished around 6:10 p.m.

Search and Recovery

Rescue crews searched for two hours before recovering both children from the river around 8:30 p.m.

Authorities confirmed the deaths were accidental drownings, with no foul play suspected.

What Went Wrong

“Unfortunately, it’s one of those situations where they looked away for a minute and it didn’t take much,”

said Lt. Keven George of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office.

Community Response

The Sheriff’s Office called the incident an “unimaginable tragedy” and urged water safety.

The community rallied around the family, raising over $35,000 for funeral and memorial expenses.
