Mamdani Rages at Trump Over US

Mayor’s Opposition

New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani opposed the U.S.

military’s capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro,

saying he called President Donald Trump directly to object.

He cited concerns about regime change, legality,

and risks to New Yorkers, declining to share Trump’s response.

Public Statement

Mamdani warned the action was a unilateral attack on a

sovereign nation and said New York’s large Venezuelan community heightened the stakes.

“My focus is their safety and the safety of every New Yorker,” he said, pledging close monitoring.

Trump Administration’s View

Trump described the operation as law enforcement,

announcing Maduro and his wife were captured and flown to the U.S.

Attorney General Pam Bondi confirmed indictments including narco-terrorism and drug trafficking charges.

Broader Debate

Reports of explosions in Caracas fueled controversy over legality,

military force, and civilian safety, intensifying debate over U.S. intervention and international norms.
