Monica Crowley Confirmed By Senate For Key State
Monica Crowley Returns to Government in Key Diplomatic Role
Monica Crowley, a longtime conservative commentator and former Treasury official, has been confirmed as Assistant Secretary of State and Chief of Protocol. The Senate approved her nomination 52–45, marking her return to government during President Donald Trump’s second term.
Crowley will serve as the administration’s official liaison at major diplomatic events and oversee U.S. protocol for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, and the country’s 250th anniversary. She brings decades of experience in international affairs and media. “She was honored with the department’s highest honor, the Alexander Hamilton Award,” during her previous role at the Treasury.
A media veteran, Crowley began contributing to Fox News in 1996 and frequently appeared alongside Sean Hannity and the late Alan Colmes. She holds a Ph.D. in international relations from Columbia University and is the author of several best-selling books.
Her appointment comes as Republicans gain ground on economic issues. Polls from CNN and Reuters/IPSOS show the GOP leading Democrats by up to 12 points on economic trust. Despite criticism of Trump’s tariff policies, public opinion on the economy remains in the GOP’s favor. CNN analyst Harry Enten said, “Democrats were unable to change public opinion” and called the polling results “surprising.”
Crowley’s return reflects Trump’s preference for experienced, loyal officials with media savvy—key traits for his second-term team.
