Marines Deployed to Support ICE
The U.S. military has sent 200 Marines to
Florida to assist ICE with “administrative and logistical support,”
a move the Department of Defense says is meant to address rising operational demands.
Limited Role Defined
Officials stress the Marines “will not be involved in law enforcement activities.”
Their duties include “communications, infrastructure management,
and supply coordination” at ICE detention centers and field offices.
Broader Federal Response
The deployment is part of a wider effort to manage strain in high-migration regions.
Florida joins Louisiana and Texas, where ICE facilities have been operating
“at or near capacity,” increasing the need for logistical assistance.
Debate and Oversight
Civil rights groups and some lawmakers warn the presence of troops could blur civilian and military roles.
Supporters counter that the mission is “strictly logistical in nature.”
DHS and the Pentagon say the assignment is temporary and “fully compliant with U.S. law.”
