Deadly Crash Near Roatan

A Lanhsa Airlines plane crashed off the coast of Roatan Island shortly after takeoff on Monday,

killing twelve people, including renowned Garifuna musician Aurelio Martinez.

The flight was headed to La Ceiba on the Honduran mainland.

Victims and Location

The aircraft carried fourteen passengers and three crew members.

Victims included two children, a French citizen, and a U.S. national.

The crash occurred about one kilometer from Roatan International

Airport in waters near a popular турист area.

Rescue and Response

Poor weather and low visibility have complicated rescue efforts.

Roatan fire chief Franklin Borjas said operations are ongoing, with one person still missing.

Survivors and injured passengers were taken to hospitals in San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba.

National Reaction

President Xiomara Castro activated the

Emergency Operations Committee and offered condolences, saying,

“May God protect people’s lives,” as tributes continue for Martinez’s cultural legacy.
