John Mulrooney—described as an exceptional radio man

and stand-up comic—has died suddenly at 67.

According to the Albany Times Union, he passed away a

t his home in Coxsackie, New York, on December 29, 2025.

No cause of death was released, and the loss was widely described as unexpected.

Comedy and Television

Raised in Brooklyn, Mulrooney rose during the 1980s comedy boom,

performing at clubs like Dangerfield’s before becoming a familiar TV presence.

His career included appearances on An Evening at the Improv and

a brief stint hosting The Late Show in 1987 after Joan Rivers’ departure.

Radio and Service

He later became a radio mainstay and, from 2010 to 2024,

worked as a police officer.

His obituary called him a “beloved stand-up comedian,

dedicated public servant, and proud patriot.”

Remembered

Adam Sandler recalled, “I remember Mulrooney would just destroy a room.”

Friends say his loyalty mattered as much as his laughter.
