I almost left after seeing our baby,
After years of waiting, the narrator and Elena were finally having a child.
On delivery day, Elena asked to give birth alone.
When he was called in, shock turned to anger:
their daughter had “pale skin, blue eyes, and blonde hair.”
He yelled, “You cheated!” convinced the baby wasn’t his.
Elena begged him to listen.
She showed a small birthmark on the baby’s foot—
the same one he shared with his brother—
and revealed she carried a rare recessive gene that
could produce light features even when both parents are Black.
Though shaken, he began to believe her.
His family didn’t. His mother and brother mocked Elena’s explanation,
and the situation escalated when he caught his mother trying to rub off the birthmark.
That became the breaking point.
Elena suggested a DNA test “for peace of mind.”
The results confirmed the truth: the baby was theirs.
Faced with proof, the family apologized,
and the narrator chose his child and wife without hesitation.
