Three Students Lost: University of Wyoming

Tragic Loss

A crash near the Wyoming–Colorado border killed three University of Wyoming men’s swimming and

diving team members: Charlie Clark, 19; Luke Slabber, 21; and Carson Muir, 18.

The accident happened at “the intersection of U.S. Highway 287 and Red Mountain Road.”

What Happened

Authorities say the Toyota RAV4 “swerved off the roadway and rolled multiple times.”

The Colorado State Patrol said the crash “remains under investigation,”

and that no factors, including “speed, impairment, or distraction,” have been ruled out.

Survivors

Two other teammates suffered “non-life-threatening injuries”

and were released from the hospital. Officials reported the

vehicle had five occupants and “left the southbound lane before rolling.”

Community Response

University leaders said the students were not on official business.

President Ed Seidel said the loss has “profoundly impacted the university and

wider community,” while counseling services are

being offered as the state and campus mourn the athletes.
