After five days apart, man finds his dog following wildfire
Fire and Fear
Early on January 7, 2025, the Palisades Fire tore through California.
For Casey Colvin, the danger wasn’t his home—it was his dogs,
Oreo and Tika Tika Tika. Trapped at work, he biked through smoke and ash,
only to be stopped by emergency crews, unsure if his dogs were alive.
A Risk Beyond Protocol
Cal Fire battalion chief Brent Pascua entered a burning
home and rescued Tika Tika Tika.
Oreo was missing, leaving Casey in agonizing uncertainty.
Five Days of Hope
For nearly a week, Casey searched tirelessly.
Hope thinned until Oreo was finally spotted alive.
Casey called out, and Oreo ran straight into his arms.
Grace in the Aftermath
Casey later thanked Pascua, saying,
“If you hadn’t done that, my dogs wouldn’t be here today.”
Pascua reflected that such moments give meaning to the risks
firefighters take, highlighting resilience, compassion, and the human–animal bond.
