I Adopted Twins with Disabilities After I Found Them
A Frozen Morning
Twelve years ago, during a pre-dawn trash route,
Abbie found a stroller abandoned on a freezing sidewalk.
Inside were twin baby girls, alive but alone.
“I’m here,” she whispered.
“You’re not alone anymore. I won’t leave you.”
A Choice That Changed Everything
Police and CPS took the babies to temporary care.
That night, Abbie couldn’t let go of their faces.
Her husband gently asked,
“What if we tried to foster them?”
Soon after, they learned the twins were profoundly deaf.
Abbie answered simply:
“I don’t care. We’ll learn whatever we need.”
Becoming a Family
They named the girls Hannah and Diana.
Life filled with ASL lessons, tight finances, and joy.
When strangers asked,
“What’s wrong with them?”
Abbie replied,
“Nothing. They’re deaf, not broken.”
Full Circle
Years later, the twins’ adaptive clothing designs
led to a major paid collaboration.
Looking back, Abbie knows the truth:
“Those girls saved me right back.”
