Chilling 3 words captured after Alex Pretti was killed
Newly released video footage is raising questions about
the death of Alex Jeffrey Pretti, a 37-year-old ICU nurse and U.S.
citizen, who was shot by federal agents during an immigration
enforcement operation in Minneapolis on January 24, 2026.
Pretti is the second Minneapolis resident killed by federal agents
this month, following the death of Renee Good on January 7,
which has intensified scrutiny of federal enforcement.
Federal officials initially said Pretti “produced a firearm and
resisted officers’ attempts to gain control of it,” prompting defensive shots.
Videos captured by bystanders and officers appear to show Pretti holding
a cellphone and recording agents before a struggle, with no firearm
clearly visible until an object consistent with a handgun was pulled
from his waist during the altercation.
Audio from the scene includes an officer asking,
“Where’s the gun?” after Pretti had been shot.
Pretti’s family called the government’s account “false” and said,
“Our son was not threatening anyone… the video shows this clearly,”
demanding a full and transparent investigation with release of all footage.
Thousands of federal agents remain in the area as the investigation
continues, amid candlelight vigils and growing tension between
federal authorities and Minneapolis community leaders.
