aid the post went beyond protected political speech.

The investigation centered on an Instagram caption that read,
“Surely a sniper with a terminal illness cannot be a big ask out of 343 million.”
Law enforcement interpreted the statement as a call for violence,
noting that comments under the post intensified the rhetoric.
Law Enforcement Response
Sheriff Ross Mellinger said the case is focused on public safety,
not politics, stating, “When you saddle up on the horse of stupidity,
you have to be prepared for the ride that follows.”
Officials alleged the post amounted to
“social media recruitment of individuals to pursue and assassinate President Trump.”

Authorities said intent to personally commit violence is not required for the charge.
