Detained in Nancy Guthries Case,
The disappearance of Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of journalist Savannah Guthrie, has taken a disturbing turn with the arrest of 45-year-old Derrick Callella. F
ederal authorities allege Callella sent ransom-style messages to the family while they were publicly pleading for information about Nancy’s whereabouts.
One message referenced a Bitcoin transaction, and prosecutors say he briefly called a family member to intensify the pressure.
Investigators traced the digital communications to Callella’s California residence.
He allegedly admitted to following the case in the media and contacting the family to see if they would respond.
He now faces two federal charges related to transmitting ransom communications.
Officials stress that his actions are separate from the primary abduction investigation.
Meanwhile, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate Nancy’s disappearance as a criminal abduction.
Evidence of forced entry and blood was found in her Tucson home. Authorities maintain hope that she is alive as the search continues.
