Visa Review and Enforcement
The Trump administration is ramping up its immigration crackdown.
On Thursday, the State Department ordered a review of nearly 55 million visa holders for violations like overstays or criminal activity.
“All U.S. visa holders … are subject to continuous vetting, with an eye toward any indication they could be ineligible for permission to enter or stay in the United States,” the department said. Violators may face visa revocation or deportation.
Expanded Vetting Measures
Reviews now include social media checks and new rules requiring privacy switches on phones to be off during visa interviews.
Officials noted that “since Inauguration Day, the State Department has revoked more than twice as many visas, including nearly four times as many student visas, as during the same time period last year.”
Truck Driver Visas Halted
The U.S. will stop issuing worker visas for truck drivers.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote, “The increasing number of foreign drivers operating large tractor-trailer trucks on U.S. roads is endangering American lives and undercutting the livelihoods of American truckers.”
Immigrant Population Trends
A Pew Research Center analysis shows the U.S. immigrant population is now declining. “After more than 50 years of rapid growth, the nation’s immigrant population is now in decline,” the study found, dropping over one million since January 2025.
