CHICAGO ROCKED BY HOLIDAY BLOODSHED
Weekend Violence
“More than 50 people were shot in Chicago during the Labor Day weekend,”
with “seven of those victims losing their lives,” police said.
The shootings happened in “separate incidents across the city.”
Victims and Arrests
Among the dead were “two women and three men,” while
“the identities of two additional victims have not yet been confirmed.”
Authorities noted that “only a small number of arrests have been made so far.”
City–Federal Clash
Mayor Brandon Johnson issued an executive order
“preventing Chicago police from cooperating with federal law enforcement,”
directly opposing President Trump’s call to deploy federal forces.
Johnson said he would “challenge any federal intervention in court.”
Political Fallout
The White House accused Democratic leaders of
“turning crime into a political issue,”
as Chicago has recorded “272 homicides so far this year.”
