Plane Crash at Southend Airport Kills Four
London Southend Airport is closed after a fatal plane crash on Sunday afternoon. The 12-metre aircraft caught fire shortly before 16:00 BST, prompting a swift response from Essex Police and emergency services.
Dutch company Zeusch Aviation confirmed its flight SUZ1 was involved in the crash and is working with investigators. The plane had flown from Athens, stopped in Croatia, and landed at Southend before it was set to return to the Netherlands.
Eyewitness John Johnson described the moment of impact: “Within a few seconds, the aircraft almost inverted and hit the ground. There was a huge fireball.”
Multiple emergency crews, including ambulances and an air unit, rushed to the scene. Sadly, all four people aboard died. “The victims are believed to be foreign nationals,” said Chief Superintendent Morgan Cronin.
The cause of the crash is still unknown. “Zeusch Aviation confirms one of its aircraft… was involved in an accident at London Southend Airport,” the company said in a statement.
The airport remains closed as investigations continue.
